The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist course is a 12 week advanced program. This course gives students a more in depth knowledge into the world of medical billing and coding. Upon completion of this course students will be able to perform a broader range of billing and coding tasks. In this course, students will cover anatomy, physiology and medical terms; review the law and ethics that are related to medical billing and coding and issues that may arise. Students will study medical billing systems, learn the importance and procedure to post, submit and appeal insurance claims. An intense focus will be placed on codes and the variations of codes per physicians order. Students will also be able to perform medical data entry, effectively use medical software, and manage electronic health records, track payments and reimbursements. Students will also be trained at how to apply coding to medical diagnosis and treatments and communicate appropriately with the providers and insurance companies. At the completion of
the program, students are eligible to sit for the American Allied Health Medical Billing and Coding Specialist national certificate exam.
